Do’s and Don’ts With Fashion Jewelry
Do go for balance, large earrings balanced with a very understated simple necklace, or no necklace and statement bracelets (lots of stacking bangles); on the other hand a large cocktail ring, all of it of course, in the same style (vintage, contemporary, classic, bohemian/earthy).
Do not be afraid to try something new, if you have always gravitated towards small, delicate jewelry, try some larger pieces, study your face shape and determine if you have a large, medium or small frame and match your jewelry to your features and body size.
Do not mix metals unless you have a signature piece that incorporates a two toned element- a style that has been popular in Europe over the past few years.
Do not overdo it, you want people to notice you and your fantastic fashion ensemble, not how much jewelry you are wearing.
Do wear a necklace as a belt- if it is sturdy enough and has a finishing bead on the end (you don’t want a hanging O ring around your waist).
Do not wear more than one cocktail ring, I know, this seems obvious but I’ve seen this violation out in public so I thought I’d better state it here.
Do not wear your sneakers with pearls or fancy crystal pieces. As the in Europe they say “You can wear jeans and sneakers, one or the other but not both at the same time.”- Unless you are cleaning your house I would add.
Do wear a 36 inch necklace as a bracelet- try it- if the chain is stiff enough to not slide around too much this a very fun alternative.
Do consider price, but don’t buy something cheap just because it’s a great deal, most likely it will sit in your jewelry box and will have actually cost you more than that expensive piece you bought that you wear all the time.
Do follow the trends, but buy what you love and what flatters you as that will be what you wear for many seasons.
